    Shihan Donald Koz 

    Donald (Don) Koz currently is an 8th degree black belt in Miyama Ryu Ju Jutsu with over 30 years of martial arts experience.  He is also the Vice-Chairman of the International Miyama Ryu Combat Jujutsu Federation. Don has been teaching since 1987.

    He also currently teaches classes at the Miyama Ryu Midwest Dojo in Palitine, IL.

    College of DuPage instructor teaching ju jutsu for 18 years, he has taught Women's self defense, corporate awareness programs, pepper spray programs and has lectured at numerous locations on the topics of self-defense.

    He is an adjunct faculty member at Harper College, Palatine, Illinois and has taught courses in Corrections and Defensive Techniques in the Criminal Justice program.

    He is a retired 30 year veteran special agent with the U.S. Treasury Department, Criminal Investigation Division and National Trainer in Defensive Tactics of over 400 federal agent instructors at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Brunswick, Georgia.

    Don has a B.S. in accounting from Northern Illinois University.  He has worked extensively in law enforcement as a financial crimes investigator for the Cook County States Attorneys Office.  Also, he worked as a Special Agent for the U.S. Treasury Department. While working for Cook County he met and trained with the late Sensei John Lewis (who was an attorney assigned to that division), from 1976-1987.

    Until his recent retirement, Don worked as an IRS Special Agent, and Use of Special Force Training Coordinator.  Don was one of the original members of a task force that was established in the early 1990's to develop the Criminal Investigations (CI) Defensive Tactics (DT) Program.  He had an integral role in making a final determination of the tactics and techniques which constituted the program.  He also assisted in writing the "Use of Force Training - Defensive Tactics Manual", trained corps of Special Agents throughout the country as DT Instructors, coordinated the teaching of CI's DT program to all Special Agents throughout the United States.


    Shihan Eddie Sullivan

    Shihan Sullivan trained at Tremont School of Judo and Jujutsu with the founder Shinan Antonio Periera in 1970.  He met Shihan John Lewis at Tremont.  He earned the rank of Kaiden through Tremont as well as 2nd dan black belt in judo.

    In 1976 he was a police officer in Skokie, IL and started training at Northwestern University with John Lewis.  While at Northwestern, he was promoted to the rank of Menkyo black belt in Lewis' system of Paracombatives.


    Sensei John Antuna

    John Antuna is a Menkyo level black belt, with over 21 years of dedication to the Miyama Ryu Jujutsu system.  John is also a teacher at College of DuPage, teaching Jujutsu along with Shihan Don Koz.  





    Sensei Rich Brunt

    Rich Brunt is a Moku Roku level black belt.  He was in the first jujutsu class that Shihan Don Koz taught at College of DuPage.  He holds a black belt in Modern Arnis and a green belt in Burmese Grappling.  He has also been assisting Shihan Don Koz with teaching at College of DuPage.




     Sensei Diane Wallander

    Diane Wallander began her training under Shihan Lewis at Northwestern University in 1983.  She was promoted to Menkyo black belt in Miyama Ryu Jujutsu by Dai-Shihan (Head Master) D'Arcy Rhaming.  She also holds a black belt in Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do. 




    Sensei Bruce Sickelsteel

    Bruce Sickelsteel trained under Sensei John Martin and Shihan Don Koz at Harper Community College and the Combat Arts Institute since 1993.  He was promoted to Okuiri black belt in 2003.  Bruce also holds a 2nd dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do.  Sensei Sickelsteel currently assists with teaching upper rank students at Miyama Ryu Midwest Dojo.




    Sensei Anthony P. Venuso

    Anthony P. Venuso Black Belt #428, has trained in Miyama Ryu Combat Ju-jutsu since 1996. He has trained at Harper College, College of DuPage and at the Palatine Dojo. Anthony began his Instructor Training at the colleges in 2001. Anthony established and is conducting a Daytime Combat Ju-jutsu program at Dojo Dynamics in Sandwich Illinois. Dojo Dynamics, established in 1996 by Shihan Scott Francis, has provided the finest Karate Program in the area and is now proud to also offer Miyama Ryu Ju-jutsu.
